Bootstrap’s off the blocks

Calderdale Bootstrap’s first event, which took place at the Trades Club on Sunday, was nothing less than a roaring success. Around one hundred people turned up to enjoy good company, a showing of the film Demain and fantastic food from the Real Junk Food Project Calderdale.

The film, which documents alternative economies in 10 countries, inspired a number of potential pitchers to express an interest in taking part in our big event on May 5 and led to the formation of a local currency group.

It also led to Bootstrap’s pledge to support SOCIT‘s campaign to stop demolition of Todmorden’s college and transform it into a community hub and a centre for teaching future skills, agroecology, natural building and alternative energy.

Bootstrap presents: Demain

Pay as you feel film and food

Calderdale Bootstrap and the Trades Club are delighted to present this ground-breaking French film, followed by delicious local food provided by The Real Junk Food Project Calderdale.

The film explores creative alternatives to the failing global economy, based on sharing, co-operation and regeneration rather than competition and exploitation. It gives glimpses of the type of initiatives Bootstrap seeks to promote in Calderdale.

Demain (Tomorrow) is about showing solutions. After the journal Nature warned the human race was at risk of extinction, Cyril Dion and Mélanie Laurent and their team carried out an investigation in ten different countries to figure out what may lead to this disaster and above all how to avoid it.

During their journey, they met the pioneers, including Incredible Farm in Todmorden, who are re-inventing agriculture, energy, economy, democracy and education. Joining those positive actions, they began to figure out how good tomorrow could be.

Come along and find out about more about Calderdale Bootstrap and how you can get involved. Reserve tickets here. Advance booking is recommended; entrance on the day subject to availability.

We have lift off

Calderdale’s next economy

Calderdale Bootstrap is starting to imagine another economy – a thriving, resilient solidarity economy of mutual self-help between existing and new enterprises, where people and environment matter.

We’d like you to get involved.

Are you interested in finding out more about the solidarity economy in Calderdale and beyond?

Do you want to help to support and grow this economy and the enterprises within it?

Do you have an idea for an enterprise that could be part of Calderdale’s next economy, or are you an existing enterprise looking to go to the next level?

Might you be interested in pitching your idea at our event to crowdfund and receive support from your community?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then watch this space. Over the coming months Calderdale Bootstrap will be bringing the community together to find new ways to work together and support each other.

The emphasis is on getting stuff done and creating livelihoods, on celebrating and growing the creativity and mutuality that already exists here.

Calderdale is showing that another economy is possible. Be part of it.
